In comparison to the church growth in Nepal during 1980s, leadership development was very limited. Realising this need BIC Church Leaders initiated to find the ways to equip church leaders with Sound Biblical knowledge in the Nepali context. As a result, College for Theological Education (CTS) was established in Biratnagar Nepal to provide theological studies by extension. The materials from Allahabad Bible Seminary (ABS) was translated and used for training starting in 1995. Students were receiving the BTS degree from ABS. During the COVID-19 pandemic, extension course were not possible to be conducted and with suggestions and support from some people, an online classes were started in August 2019. The college name was also changed to Sarwangin Aguwa Nirman (SAN) Kendra (Center for Wholistic Leadership Development). SAN Kendra also proceeded to acquire a accreditated degree from ATA and thus received the ATA membership in January 2021 and is looking forward to receiving the accreditation by 2023.
I greet you all in the name of our Lord Jesus!
Sarwangin Aguwa Nirman Kendra (Centre of Wholistic Leaders Development) is leadership development wing of brethren in Christ (BIC) Church. Earlier it was known as College for Theological Studies (CTS) that has been engaged for the last 15 years in providing theological education by extension for interdenominational church pastors and lay leaders who did not have the opportunity for residential bible seminary/training institutions.
In spite of ups and down while facing many struggles and challenges we are thankful to God for all His goodness and faithfulness in providing support and guidance not only to continue but now we are able to begin with a broader vision and objectives to equip many more church leaders to be trained to serve the church effectively and continue to expand the Kingdom of God across and beyond Nepal.
Previously, in coordination and partnership with Allahabad Bible Seminary (ABS) Allahabad, India we were running the program and therefore all the students who completed the course successfully were awarded certificates of B.Th. /B.T.S. from ABS, Allahabad. Now I am glad to inform you that during the lockdown due to pandemic COVID-19 and uncertain situation the Lord gave us a new vision to begin online classes for which we revised the course materials into an online format and already initiated the online classes. When the situation becomes normal SAN Kendra will continue to offer physical tutorial classes along with the online class. We have already processed to get accreditation for B.Th. program from Asia Theological Association (ATA).
I am so grateful to those organizations and individuals who have prayerfully supported morally and financially to initiate this vital program. It is also to remind you that it is an attempt to provide an opportunity within affordable low expenses to those lay leaders and pastors of Nepali churches to be equipped theologically who are unprivileged for residential bible school. With much appreciation your support is continually anticipated in whatsoever way is possible for successfully achieving the goal of this program.
Blessings of God to everyone! Dr. Shemlal Hembrom
Principal, SAN Kendra
Sarwangin Aguwa Nirman Kendra also known as SAN Kendra is dedicated to wholistic development of leaders for building healthy churches in Nepal and beyond among the Nepali speaking communities. As the churches among Nepalese throughout the world has been growing, we felt the need for wholistic leadership to be developed to serve the churches and the communities around. We have also felt the need for providing effective learning experience to the students without the need for leaving their ministries, family and job. As the modern age has made it possible for us to access everything through internet and technology, we want to break down the physical barrier and its limitations and provide a balanced theological education where students receive their theological training using the modern day technology. Therefore we have designed a curriculum for recognized degrees on C.Th. Dip.Th. and B.Th. which addresses the present day need of the church in building the leaders equipped to serve this generation and raise leaders for the next generation. SAN Kendra, students and the local church will collaborate together and enhance this learning experience to build wholistic leaders to serve the church among all the Nepalese in Nepal and throughout the world.
